Twice Around: What's New

Last Friday, after we opened for Mindy Smith at the Fairfield Theatre Company, Jim Motavalli from local station WPKN introduced himself to us and asked if we would like to be on his show on Tuesday night.  Who are we to turn down a radio invite?  We showed up, guitars in hand, and spent the next 45 minutes chatting with Jim, playing songs live, and spinning tunes from our two CD's.  We had a blast and we can't thank Jim enough for letting us be a part of his show.

We've said it before and we'll say it again..."Gotta love WPKN!"  Through the years, so many people from that station have gone out of their way to help us promote our music and we are forever grateful.  Please tune in (89.5 FM) and give a listen sometime.  There is something there for everybody.

We had the pleasure of opening up for the amazing Cheryl Wheeler at the Fairfield Theatre Company this past Saturday. What a treat it was. The crowd was warm and welcoming as we took the stage for our half-hour set. Cheryl played a fantastic set AND was so nice to us backstage. We've been big fans of hers for a long time. She is a total pro and now we love her even more :) We are looking forward to a return engagement at FTC. In the meantime check out some of the terrific artists they have lined up. We're lucky to have this venue so nearby.

Hello folks. We're sorry we haven't been out to play for you recently. Frank had to have his tonsils out! He is recovering nicely and we should be back in the groove soon enough. So enjoy your Summer and look for us in the Fall. We'll be excited to play out again for certain!

Bring some food and wine, relax and plan on having plenty of fun in this wonderful cabaret style theatre! We can't wait.

We had a serene and lovely evening at the Peace Cafe in Southington last night. It is a great spot and they have a show every month ... so go and check it out! We had the great fortune of having Kenn Morr start the night for us. Not only is he a great musician, he's also a great guy and keeps great company. His perucssionist Bob Gaspar and bassist Dan Hocott were both a pleasure to listen to as well. We saw some old friends and made some new ones. All in the setting of music and community. Hope your Valentine's day was equally enjoyable.

Back in the States we have been working on some new songs. We had our friend Gene Heiter down in the studio this week to add his Bass talents to one of our tracks. Great fun to be recording again. So don't let our silence fool you! We're still at it and still loving it. More to come. Today marks the one year anniversary of the release of our debut CD Short Story Long. Time sure does fly. Our accountants tell us that we only have to sell just under a million more copies and it will be certified Platinum. Wow! Let's keep our fingers crossed. Thank you all for helping make this a successful first year.

Had a nice suprise at our show on Saturday night at the Reality Cafe in Stratford. Unbeknownst to us, WPKN Radio hosts JF "Nazmo King" and Art Hanson were in the audience. Meeting them after the gig, they mentioned that they were both filling in that night at the station, and invited us to be guests on their show soon following. "Yes. Absolutely!" we said. We packed up our stuff, and headed on over to the WPKN studios where for the next hour, we sat around, chatted, played songs from our CD's, and generally just had a great time. Old friend and host Doug Echols was just finishing up his show, and he decided to hang around and sit in on the interview with us. Really had a blast!

Wow! What a great three days we had this past weekend. Started off Thursday night in South Norwalk at the SoNo Caffiene. Always a fun place to play, in a bohemian sort of way. Great people in and out all evening.
Then, onto a two night engagement at Center Stage on Center Street in Shelton. Very enthusiastic crowd, both nights. Got to meet up with many new (and old) fans. Sold a bunch of CD's too. Whole lotta fun. Can't wait to get back there. Check them out, as there is something different going on there every weekend. Gary and Fran Scarpa are the most gracious hosts. Love em!
To top off the weekend, on Saturday night, our Autumn Song was played on Walt Grahams Acoustic Connections show on WSHU 91.1. It was included in his "First Day of Autumn" show. Thanks Walt.

We had a couple of our songs from "Short Story Long" played on Walt Grahams' Acoustic Connections show on Saturday night. Believe In Love, and Sometimes Your Love were included in his "New Music" program. Walt's show has been on for many years, and he features national as well as local Folk/Acoustic artists. We really love his theme based shows. Tune in sometime. You will be glad that you did. He can be heard every Saturday night at 9:00 pm on WSHU 91.1 FM, WSHU 1260 AM, & WSUF 89.9FM. Not near a radio? There are lots of ways to listen.

Had fun playing once again at the Acoustic Cafe in Bridgeport on Saturday evening. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us that night.

Philadelphia based, singer-songwriter Christine Havrilla opened the show for us, and it was great to sit and listen to her set before going on ourselves. Not only is she a very talented musician, but was also a lot of fun to hang out with before and after the show.
During our set, sisters Nicole Martinson, and Lauren Hering joined us on stage lending their heavenly harmonies to a handfull of our songs.
Local blues great Chris D'Amato aka "Smokin Opey" even got up and helped us finish out the night by adding his inimitable touch on lead guitar to our final number. Always a pleasure.

Another radio appearance for us on Tuesday. We were on WPKN again as Doug Echols had invited us to spend the afternoon with him on his show. He played many songs from our CD's, promoted our upcoming shows, and chatted with us about our music, our lives, and a whole bunch of other stuff. He made it so easy. It was like sitting around talking with an old friend. He asked us if we would like to hang around and help out with their fundraising drive. Of course we said yes! Over the years, WPKN has been very supportive of not only our music, but many local and independent musicians. If you haven't listened yet, we recommend you give it a try. Not everything will be your cup of tea, but there is enough diverse programing on here that certainly you will find something that you enjoy. They can be heard on 89.5 FM in the Bridgeport area, and on 88.7 FM (WPKM) from Mantauk, Long Island. Or listen online.

Many great days of playing out and meeting people. This past weekend we were at two of our old hangouts where we felt so relieved to show up with our CD in hand. We had several people at Caffe del Mondo ready to give up on us! See guys? We got it done. It only took 4 years ... come on now :) At Huntington Street Cafe, many of you knew our songs and were singing along! So cool. And Lauren Hering joined us onstage for Believe in Love and Autumn Song, and now we want to take her with us wherever we go! Last night we were at the open mic at The Space in Hamden. Hip environment, warm vibes and fresh original music from artists of every style you can imagine. We so enjoyed talking with and listening to other musicians. Good times all. See you again soon!

Stopped by WPKN again today and got to meet with DJ Pam Smith. Her show is always filled to the brim with the best independent music out there. Her web site Amazon Radio, which in addition to promoting local musicians, also serves as a voice for many social, and activist issues. Her show is on every Friday from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Check it out. Good stuff.

We had so much fun playing at Java Jive last weekend. It just felt good to dust off our guitars and play live once more. Being in the basement recording has its joys, of course, but there is nothing quite like interacting with you all at a gig. Looking forward to SoNo tomorrow night. We'll see you there, right? :)
